WEST POINT, Ga. - Freshman Amanda Darling scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 82nd minute, as the Union College women's soccer team bested Point (Ga.), 2-1, in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Tuesday.

With the victory, Union improved to 4-10 overall, 3-5 in the AAC, while Point dropped to 4-10-2, 1-5-2 in the AAC with the defeat.

In the opening half, Union was first to strike, as junior Aline Dalmedico scored her team leading 12th goal of the season, unassisted, in the 32nd minute, giving the Bulldogs the early 1-0 edge. The lead held through the rest of the period, as Union went into the intermission up a score.

After a first half that saw Union outshoot Point 9-5, Point went on the attack in the second half, taking 12 shots in all. The Lady Skyhawks finally got one past Union goalie Kendall Ellington in the 67th minute, as Kayla Herring scored, tying the match at 1-1.

With under 10 minutes to go in regulation, the match remained tied. That was until Darling picked the perfect time to score her first career goal.

The score came with 7:49 left in regulation, and was set up by a Helen Weber pass, who picked up her third assist of the season on the play. Over the final seven minutes, Union held the lead, as Ellington capped off a strong day by making six second half saves to preserve the conference win for the Bulldogs.

Overall, Point outshot Union 17-12 in the contest, holding a 12-5 edge in the second half, alone. Both teams had three corner kicks. In net, Ellington ended the day making a season-high 11 saves to record the win.
