COLUMBIA, Ky. - Union freshman Alex Sigmon is the Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Rome Cotton of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Jeremy Gardner of Cumberlands (Ky.) earned the MSC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively. The weekly honor is the first of the season for all three players.
Sigmon scored six points and had two punts land inside the 20-yard line in Union's 24-17 win over Kentucky Christian University on Saturday to earn MSC Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Bristol, Tenn., native connected on all three of his extra points and made a 32-yard field goal to help the Bulldogs to the win. One of Sigmon's two punts inside the 20-yard line came on a 40-yard punt with 1:40 left in the game to pin Kentucky Christian on its own 4-yard line.
Sigmon is sixth in the scoring for kickers this season with 44 points. His seven field goals ranks fourth in the MSC and 16th in the NAIA. Sigmon is ninth in the conference with a 36.4-yard per punt average.
With the win, Union improves to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-South Conference East Division.
Union returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Lindsey Wilson. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
