BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Junior running back Leonard Dixon ran for 145 yards and a touchdown, but that was not near enough for Union as it fell 72-9 to visiting No. 18 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in Mid-South Conference East play on Saturday.
The loss drops Union to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the MSC East, while Lindsey Wilson improves to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in league play.
The Blue Raiders outgained Union 566-242 in total offense but only had the ball a minute longer than the Bulldogs (30:30 to 29:30). LWC starting quarterback Branden Cresap completed 15-of-24 passes for 270 yards and five touchdowns - all five of which came in the first half as the Blue Raiders took a 34-0 lead into the intermission.
Rome Cotton was a dual threat for LWC as he rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries and caught three passes for 71 yards and another score.
Trailing 41-0, Union finally scored when Dixon broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good leaving it 41-6 with 11:37 to go in the third.
The only other score for the Bulldogs came off an Alex Sigmon 23-yard field goal at the 10:50 mark in the fourth.
Union only had 95 passing yards on the quarterbacks combined to go 8-of-19. Domonique Jefferson caught three passes for 95 yards.
By the Numbers
- With 761 rushing yards, Dixon owns the 10th-best rushing season in program history.
- Jefferson now ranks 11th on the all-time receptions list with 87 career catches. Also, with 768 receiving yards on the year, he is 131 shy of tying the program single-season record.
Union will play host to Georgetown (Ky.) next Saturday in another MSC East showdown. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
