BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College volleyball team put up a valiant effort, but the host Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 19-25) decision to No. 9 Lindsey Wilson on Monday evening at Robsion Arena.

With the loss, Union fell to 23-8 overall, while Lindsey Wilson improved to 32-2 on the year with the victory.

In the first set, the Bulldogs came out on fire, opening an 11-6 lead. Lindsey Wilson, however clawed it's way back, taking a 17-16 lead. Union wrestled the lead back from the Blue Raiders, finally clinching the set on a kill by Paige Moore to take things by two points.

Union once again opened an 11-6 lead in the second set, before LWC went on a 9-1 run to open a 15-12 lead. Despite Union pulling to within a point (22-21, 24-23) after a Heather Fields kill and a LWC service error, respectively, the Blue Raiders evened the match up at a set apiece after a Bulldog service error.

The third and fourth sets had similar results for Union, as LWC put both sets away with rallies in the middle of the respective sets. LWC opened a 17-13 lead in the third set that Union was unable to come back from and a 20-15 lead in the fourth and final set.

The Blue Raiders put things away in the fourth set, winning by six points to extinguish the Bulldogs' attempt at an upset victory.

Overall, Caity Merritt led the Union attack, hammering home a game-high 20 kills on the night. Meanwhile, Moore ended the night with a 18 kills and four block-assists. Fields posted 44 assists (and 15 digs) on the evening, while defensively, Ana Calaza led the way with 28 digs.

For Lindsey Wilson, Nadelina Nesheva led the Blue Raider attack in the victory, posting 16 kills.
