BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College's Sean Brown scored a team-high 19 points, pacing the Bulldogs to an easy 71-51 victory over Point (Ga.) in Appalachian Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday at Robsion Arena.
With the win, Union moved to 2-1 overall on the year, 1-0 in the AAC, while Point fell to 1-5, 0-1 in the AAC with the defeat.
In the first half, Union scored the game's first basket, and proceeded to keep the lead the rest of the contest. On the heels of strong defense, the Bulldogs opened up a 19-9 lead with 8:12 remaining in the period, The Bulldogs then opened up a 24-9 lead with four minutes to go, as the Skyhawks didn't hit double-digits until 3:50 left in the first half.
From there in the period, Union coasted, rolling into the locker room for halftime up 32-16. In the first half, the Union defense held Point to just 17.2 percent shooting from the floor (5-of-29) and 2-of-12 shooting from three-point range.
It was more of the same in the second half for Union, as the Bulldogs opened an insurmountable 39-19 lead three minutes into the half. From there, Union coasted, as the Bulldogs opened up AAC play with a big 20-point home victory.
Overall, Brown led the Bulldogs in the scoring department with his 19 point evening on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Elsewhere, Fitzgerald White came off the bench and added 17 points (on 7-of-10 shooting), while snatching nine rebounds.
The other double-digit scorer on the night for Union was Michael Bueter, who had 10 points. Elsewhere, Tyler Wagner just missed out on a double-double, scoring eight points, while snatching a career-high 12 rebounds.
Point was led in the defeat by Brandon Wright, who scored a game-high 22 points.
Union hits the road in AAC play on Tuesday evening, traveling to Milligan (Tenn.) for another conference clash. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
