CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Union College men's and women's swimming teams had an impressive showing at Campbellsville (Ky.) on Saturday, as the Bulldogs swept a double-dual meet against the host Tigers and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).
On the men's side, Union beat Campbellsville, 180-38 and bested Lindsey Wilson, 125-111. For the women, Union knocked off Campbellsville, 155-71 and defeated LWC, 134-94. With the results, the Union women's team is now 4-1 on the year in dual meets, while the men's team is 3-2.
Overall, the Bulldogs dominated the meet, capturing 18 of the 28 events contested on the afternoon.
"It was an interesting day at the pool for us," said head coach Rafael Forti. "We were exposed to some particular circumstances that are not traditional to us: swimming in a short-course meter pool, and it being really cold. Nevertheless our women and men stepped up today and really imposed their game in the water. I was glad to see everyone taking care of business."
For the Union women, the Bulldogs obtained seven NAIA National Qualifying cuts in the meet (three "A" cuts and four "B" cuts). Two "A" cuts were obtained for the first time on the 2013 season on the day.
First, the Union 200-free relay squad obtained a cut after hitting the wall in 1:58.38. The second was by Anna Kotliarova in the same event, as her time in the 50-free portion of the 200-free relay was an "A" cut for the Bulldogs.
For the men, three Qualifying Cuts were notched, with Jose Jesus Morales notching a "B" cut in the 100-fly with a time of 1:00.71, the first time on the year a cut has been achieved in that event. Morales also etched his name into the Union record book on the day, as he broke the school record in the 200-fly with a time of 2:00.83.
The Union College men's and women's swimming teams return to action on Nov. 23, as they host Transylvania (Ky.) and Bethel (Tenn.) at Stivers Aquatic Center. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
