BEREA, Ky. - A late push sent Marian (Ind.) past Union for an 86-79 decision at the Berea College Classic in Berea, Ky., on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (3-2 overall) led for nearly the first 30 minutes of the game, even holding a 38-27 halftime lead. However, the Knights slowly chipped away at the deficit and took its first lead of the game at 60-58 when Laken Hasser-Smith converted an old-fashioned, three-point play with 9:26 to play.
Lydia Nash tied it at 60-60 with a pair of free throws, but Marian would not relinquish the lead. Haley Perkins sank a jumper at the 5:08 mark to pull Union within 73-72, yet Deauna Evans drained a 3-pointer to give Marian four-point edge as the Knights outscored the Bulldogs 13-7 in the final minutes to hang on for the 86-79 decision.
Four Bulldogs scored in double figures with Amber Taylor leading the way with 19 points. Perkins and Nash followed with 14 apieace, while Marah Rice netted 11.
Hasser-Smith paced Marian (2-3 overall) with 28 points with Stephanie Lord and Claire Holba adding 20 and 11 points, respectively.
Union returns to Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Wednesday as it plays host to Montreat (N.C.) at 5:30 p.m.
