ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Union College forward Deante Johnson has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 17, the league announced Monday.

Johnson, a junior, earned the first Player of the Week honor in the AAC for the 2013-14 season after leading Union to an unbeaten 3-0 week last week. In all, the Bulldogs (5-1) are currently riding a four-game winning streak.

Johnson scored in double-figures in all three games on the week, averaging 18.7 points a game, while pulling down six rebounds per contest. Johnson led Union in the scoring department in two of the three games on the week, first scoring 19 points in an 80-72 victory at Milligan (Tenn.) on Tuesday, then pouring in 23 points in a convincing 105-72 win at Kentucky Christian on Thursday.

Johnson ended the week with a 14-point effort in the Bulldogs' 116-100 win over Miami-Hamilton on Friday. Johnson also finished the week shooting 81.3 percent from the floor (26-of-32), and went 4-of-5 from the free throw line, as well.

For his career, Johnson, who was inserted into the Bulldog line-up in the second half of the 2012-13 season, has now scored in double-figures in 11 of the 16 games in which he has logged playing time. For the 2013-14 season, Johnson is averaging 14 points a game and 5.3 rebounds per contest.

Johnson and the rest of the Union men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Montreat (N.C.) in an AAC tilt. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
