BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Senior guard Amber Taylor dished out a career-high 13 assists in helping guide Union to a 75-61 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over visiting Truett-McConnell (Ga.) on Saturday.

With the win, Union improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the AAC.

Taylor's previous best was 10 assists, which accomplished twice. The 13 assists always tie her for the most in NAIA Division II thus far this season.

The Clinton, Tenn., native only had four dimes at the half, but Taylor really starting handling out the helpers during the Bulldogs' final push to close out the game. She had four assists during the final six minutes of the game as Union turned a five-point lead into a 14-point victory.

Early on, Truett-McConnell (2-3 overall, 1-2 AAC) was in control as it drained three 3-pointers in opening up a 15-8 lead  with 14:16 left in the half. Union used a 16-6 run to grab a 24-21 advantage with 5:48 to go in the period. The Bulldogs went on to take a 30-27 lead into the break.

The Lady Bears opened the second half like they did the first, on fire. TMC scored the first seven points of the half to claim a 34-30 lead at the 17:53 mark. However, Union responded with a 15-4 surge to nab a 45-38 lead with 13:32 on the clock. Haley Perkins scored five points during the run with Taylor adding four. TMC cut the margin to two and trailed 60-55 with 5:34 to play. But Union closed out the game on a 15-6 run to lock up the victory.

Three Bulldogs scored in double figures with Aaliyah Lumson and Lydia Nash leading the way with 14 points apiece. Nash was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor. Perkins followed with 12 points. Taylor nearly had her second double-double in a row, but finished with eight points.

For Truett, Briana Jones netted a game-high 18 points with Helen Simoes and Rhandee Haskett each chipping in 10 each.

By the Numbers

  • Union posted season highs for steals (15) and assists (21).
  • Taylor's 13 assists were two shy of equaling the program record, which is held by Anna Mills and Andrea Hillard.
  • The 29 turnovers by Truett are the most by a Union opponent this season. The Bulldogs scored 33 points off of the Lady Bears' miscues.
