MONTREAT, N.C. - The 25th-ranked Union College men's basketball team came back in a big way after facing a halftime deficit, using a dominating second half performance to blow past Montreat (N.C.), 82-63, in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening at McAlister Gymnasium.

With the victory, Union won their seventh straight game to improve to 17-3 overall and 10-1 in the AAC. Montreat fell to 11-10, 5-6 in the AAC with the defeat.

In the first half, Montreat slowed the pace down and took advantage, going into the locker room for intermission clinging to a 37-32 lead. It marked the first time in six games that the Bulldogs trailed at the half.

But, things were much, much different in the second half right from the start, as Union opened the period on a 9-0 run to take a 41-37 lead. As the half wore on, the Bulldogs continued to distance themselves from the Cavaliers, opening up a 72-59 lead with under 10 minutes remaining.

Union continued to ride the wave of momentum the rest of the way, as they outscored Montreat by 24 points (50-26) in the second half to roll to a 19-point road conference win.

Overall, forward Gerard Newby led six Union double-digit scorers with 16 points. Meanwhile, Tarik Smith and DeAntray Stevens scored 14 points, apiece, Fitzgerald White had 13 points, and Deante Johnson and Michael Bueter had 10 points each.

Montreat was led in the loss by Myles Marshall, who came off the bench to score 16 points.
