RICHMOND, Ky. - The Union bowling teams each posted seventh-place finishes at the 2014 Bulldog Classic, which was held in Richmond, Ky., on Saturday.
The men's team tallied a total pinfall of 6,303 to land seventh in the eight-team field. Meanwhile, the women's team posted a final score of 6,019 to finish seventh out of seven squads.
In the men's competition, Pikeville (Ky.) won the event with a final score of 7,194, edging out second-place Bethel (Tenn.) by seven pins. Emmanuel (Ga.) was third at 6,908 with Cumberland (Tenn.) and Cumberlands (Ky.) rounding out the top five with scores of 6,651 and 6,538, respectively.
Pikeville's Joshua Encarnacion took top individual honors with a tally of 1,143 to place him 21 pins ahead of teammate Michael Fonseca.
Joey Davenport paced Union with a 10th-place showing as he racked up a score of 991. Jonathan Courtney was next in line for the Bulldogs with an 18th-place finish at 940.
In the women's field, Pikeville took top honors with a score of 7,182, finishing over 600 pins better than second-place Emmanuel which posted 6,532. Bethel, St. Catharine (Ky.) and Campbellsville (Ky.) completed the top five with scores of 6,200, 6,193 and 6,186, respectively.
Katelyn Simpson of Pikeville was the top individual finisher with a pinfall of 1,034 to edge Campbellsville's Chelsey Stephens by six pins.
Christy King led Union as she tied for eight-place with a score of 933. Marrissa Campbell was Union's next highest finisher, coming in 17th overall at 866.
Both teams return to action on Feb. 8 at the Norse Collegiate in Erlanger, Ky.
