BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College guard Michael Bueter scored a season-best 26 points off the bench and nailed a three-pointer to send the game to overtime, as the Bulldogs knocked off Virginia Intermont, 123-116, in OT on Monday night at Robsion Arena in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.

With the victory, Union won their 11 straight game, improving to 21-3 overall and 13-1 in the AAC. Virginia Intermont fell to 7-13 overall, 5-7 in the AAC with the defeat.

In the first half, Union blew open a close game in the later parts of the period, opening up a 44-30 lead with 1:37 left. Virginia Intermont began to slowly chip away at the lead at the end of the period, cutting it down to 44-36 at intermission.

To start the second half, VI continued to ride the wave of momentum, cutting the lead to four points in the first three minutes of the period (46-42). After quickly going back up by nine points (51-42), VI cut the Union lead all the way down to one point (55-54) with 14 minutes left.

VI completed the comeback with nine minutes left, tying the game at 60-60 after a three pointer by Joshua Hart. Union once again fought off the rally, taking a six point lead at 66-60 nearly a minute later. But, VI went on a huge 12-5 run over the next three minutes to take their first lead since early in the first half at 72-71 with six minutes to go.

After both teams wrestled with the lead back and forth over the next five minutes, it appeared VI was about to take control of the ballgame up by five with 36 seconds left (93-88). However, Union cut the lead to a single point (94-93) with 23 seconds left after Tarik Smith nailed a three.

After VI made a pair of free throws to go up three (96-93), Union had one last chance to tie the game in the final seconds of regulation. After a missed shot and a wild sequence at the net, forward Deante Johnson kicked the ball out to Bueter with two seconds left, who nailed a three to tie the game.

A desperation three by VI at the buzzer was unsuccessful, sending the game to overtime.

In the overtime period, the Bulldogs rolled, opening a 109-100 lead in the first three minutes. From there, Union salted the game away at the charity stripe, making their final four free throws to put VI away and record the seven point home victory.

Overall, Bueter scored 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, while dishing out six assists to lead the way. Other double digit scorers on the night for the Bulldogs included Smith and Fitzgerald White, who finished with 22 points, apiece, Johnson, who posted another double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds and DeAntray Stevens, who had 14 points.

Union was able to hold off VI despite an incredible effort by Hart, who finished the game scoring 51 points on 15-of-21 shooting from the floor.
