GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Union College men's and women's track & field teams opened their 2014 season on Friday evening, taking part in the Tiger Small College Invitational held on the campus of DePauw (Ind.) University.
For the men, junior Domonique Jefferson led the Bulldogs on the track, finishing fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.29) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (24.15). Elsewhere in the running events, freshman Kenneth Cauley finished right behind Jefferson in the 60-meters in fifth (7.34) and the 200-meters in 10th (24.55). Finally, Decorwyne Dunnaway placed third in the 400-meters (1:02.35) and Nick Cash was 10th in the mile-run (5:30.20).
In field events, senior William White was third in the weight throw (41 feet, 1.75 inches) and fourth in the shot put (39 feet, 10.75 inches), while junior Matt Francis was third in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, six inches and fourth in the weight throw with a 35 foot, 10.50 inch effort. Rounding out the performances on the day for the men's team was senior Andrew Johnston's effort in the pole vault (11 feet, 11.75 inches) which put him fourth overall in the event.
On the women's side, junior Helen Weber had the highest individual finish on the track, placing sixth in the 400-meters (1:16.37). Meanwhile, the Bulldogs distance medley team of Weber, Becky Allen, Danielle Jasiewicz, and Stefanie Edgell finished third in that event (17:30.57). Their time also set a new indoor school record in the event, as well.
In the field, junior Kayse Cornett broke an indoor school record in the weight throw (34 feet, 11.25 inches) to finish third, while she also finished third in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet, one inch.
The Union track & field teams return to action on Feb. 15 when they return to Greencastle for the Depauw Invitational.
