BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union received solid pitching performances from the three who took the mound today as the Bulldogs posted a 3-0 decision over visiting Asbury (Ky.) on Tuesday.

The win evens Union's mark at 3-3 on the year, while Asbury opens the season at 0-1.

The Bulldog trio of Casey WhittleJustin King and Luke Collis combined to toss nine shutout innings, allowing five hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Whittle collected the win, going five strong frames and giving up three hits and one walk while fanning two batters. King tossed three innings and allowed two hits and struck out one, while Collis pitching a 1-2-3 ninth to notch the save.

At the plate, Zach Gross was the Union offense as he went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. The Bulldogs finished with only three hits on the day.

Union scored the game's first runs in the third when J.D. Burrell led off with a walk and then stole second. Gross laid down a perfect bunt for a single before advancing to second on the play since no one was covering the bag, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Jared Tomany followed with a sac fly to knock in Burrell and move Gross to third. LaVance Anderson then grounded out to second to push Gross across the plate, making it 2-0.

It remained a 2-0 contest until the eighth when Gross led off with a walk. A sac bunt and a ground out moved the second baseman to third, and Gross finally came home when Nelson Price lined a double to deep left-center field.

Collis closed the game by getting the three Eagles he faced in the ninth to go down in order, sealing the 3-0 victory.
