GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Union College men's and women's track & field teams continued their 2014 indoor season on Saturday, taking part in the 2014 Depauw (Ind.) Invitational.
Overall, the Union women's team finished 10th overall, while the men's team placed 15th.
For the women, junior Kayse Cornett led the way, as she broke two school records on the afternoon. First, Cornett broke the indoor record in the shot put with a 32 feet, 1.50 inch effort to place 11th, then Cornett snapped her own school mark in the weight throw, posting a 35 foot, 1.75 inch effort to place sixth overall in the competition.
Elsewhere for the women's team, Jessica Shepherd finished ninth in the 60-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 8.53 and 11th in the 200-meters with a time of 28.45. In the 600-meters, Danielle Jasiewicz placed fifth (2:05.31) and Becky Allen was sixth (2:13.20), while in the distance medley, the Bulldogs finished second in a time of 18:07.81. Meanwhile, Alex Prokopchak finished ninth in the triple jump with a 29 feet, 11.50 inch effort to round out the top performances for the women's team.
On the men's side, Domonique Jefferson was ninth in the 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 7.28, while Kenneth Cauley finished 13th in the event in 7.36. Jefferson was also 15th in the 200-meters (23.80), while Nick Cash finished 12th in the 1000-meter run (3:21.69).
In field events, Andrew Johnston was seventh in the pole vault with a 12 feet, 11.75 inch effort. Rounding out the top performances for the men's team was William White, who was 11th in the shot put (39 feet, 10.75 inches) and 14th in the weight throw (38 feet, 6.75 inches).
The Union College track & field teams return to action on Mar. 1, finishing up their indoor season at the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational in Anderson, Ind.
