CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - The Union College women's swimming team finished the 2014 Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships in fourth place overall, while the men's team finished fifth, as action wrapped up at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Saturday evening.

The Union women's team, who garnered 333 points, improved on an eighth place finish in last seasons ASC Championships. Meanwhile, the Union men collected 388 points to place in the top five as a squad at the Championships for the fifth straight season.

Things got underway for both teams in the evening session with the 1650-free, as Union's Kellianne Holck recorded a "B" cut in the women's portion of the event with a time of 19:05.17, and Bradley Moore placed third, hitting an "A" cut in the men's half of the race with a mark of 16:23.46.

For the women's team, Eliska Melicharova was fifth in the 200-back, hitting the wall in an "A" cut time of 2:12.62, Callie Harrigan finished off her impressive run at the ASC Championships with a third place finish in the 100-free (53.00, an "A" cut) and Anna Kotliarova finished just behind her teammate in the event, placing sixth in an "A" cut time of 54.58. Also in the 100-free, Tanya Eustrom (56.70) and Kayla Yokley (56.80) posted "B" cut times.

In the women's 200-breast, freshman Jule Stein was third, hitting the wall in an "A" cut time of 2:37.05. The final event of the Championships for the women's team was the 400-free relay and the Bulldogs placed fourth, finishing in their final "A" cut time of 3:39.44.

On the men's side, Dustin Dyer was fifth in the 200-back with an "A" cut time of 1:56.78, while teammate Lucas Lucena was seventh in the event, also hitting an "A" cut in 2:00.45. In the 100-free, Diego Rios finished fifth in 47.88 (an "A" cut), and Rafael Bertholo recorded a "B" cut in the event with a mark of 49.38.

In the 200-breast, Vinicius Rossi was ninth with a "B" cut of 2:17.23. The final event of the Championships was the men's 400-free relay, and the Bulldogs placed sixth, hitting their last "A" cut with a time of 3:14.91.

Overall, Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) swept both the men's and women's portions of the ASC Conference Championships, winning the men's title over Mars Hill (N.C.) and the women's crown over Brenau (Ga.).

Union now takes a few weeks off before finishing off their 2013-14 season at the 2014 NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. The event will run from Mar. 5 through Mar. 8.
