BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Pitching once again carried Union as it swept a twinbill from visiting Concordia (Mich.), winning 6-2 and 2-0 on Sunday.

With the wins, Union ups its record to 5-3, while Concordia drops to 0-7.

Senior Luke Collis tossed a complete game in the opener, allowing two earned runs on four hits and one walk with five strikeouts. He is now 1-0 on the year. Junior Ray Smith notched a complete-game shutout in the nightcap, giving up four hits and one walk while fanning one.

These were the first two complete games by the Bulldog pitching staff this season.

Game One - Union 6, Concordia 2

A pair of three-run rallies was more than enough to lift Union to the 6-2 decison.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Union tied the game on LaVance Anderson's sac fly. Nelson Price then put the Bulldogs up for good with a two-run blast, his first home run of the season.

Union picked up some insurance runs in the sixth with another three-run outburst. Two of the runs, though, came home thanks to a pair of balks. Justin Elder had a run-scoring single to account for the other run.

Concordia scratched out a run in the seventh, but it was too little, too late as Union held on for the 6-2 decision.

The Bulldogs had only three hits but were able to take advantage of nine bases on balls. J.D. Burrell went 0-for-1 but walked and scored twice.

Game Two - Union 2, Concordia 0

Smith pitched a gem, keeping the Cardinals off base for the majority of the in leading the Bulldogs to the 2-0 victory.

In the third, Price collected his third RBI of the day when his sac fly allow Burrell to score for a 1-0 lead. Union collected its final run in the fifth thanks to a Tyler Young RBI single.

Concordia's best shot at scoring came in the top of the fifth when it has the bases loaded with one out. However, back-to-back fielder's choices squashed the potential rally, keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard.

Once again, Union only managed three hits but benefited from four walks, two errors and two hit by pitches.
