WALESKA, Ga. - Union closed out the regular season with a 71-62 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over host Reinhardt (Ga.) on Saturday.
With the win, the Bulldogs are 21-8 overall and 16-4 in league play. The Lady Eagles are 13-15 overall and 10-10 in the AAC.
Haley Perkins paced Union with 22 points, while Lydia Nash followed with 20 points. Amber Taylor nearly recorded a double-double with nine points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
After the teams traded baskets early on, Union used an 18-5 run to open up a 28-12 cushion with 4:50 left in the half. The Bulldogs led by as much as 18 in the opening period en route to the 34-20 halftime lead.
For the most part, Union maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half. However, Reinhardt managed to get the margin down to seven three times with the final time coming with 13 seconds left at 69-62. Yet, the Lady Eagles ran out of time as the Bulldogs walked away with the 71-62 decision.
Four Lady Eagles scored in double figures with April Beasley leading the way with a double-double, recording 12 points and 16 rebounds. Three others recorded 10 points.
By the Numbers
- The 20-win season is the ninth in program history and the eighth under head coach Tim Curry, who is in his 13th season.
- This is also the third year in a row the Bulldogs have posted 20 wins in a season, marking the second time Union has posted such a streak.
- Taylor now has 179 assists on the season; third most in program history behind Andrea Hillard's 194- and 191- assist seasons.
- Nash now has 516 points on the year for the 13th 500-point season by an individual in program history.
Union will next play in the AAC Tournament in Kingsport, Tenn. The Bulldogs are the No. 2 seed and will play the winner of the No. 7 seed/No. 10 seed game on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The tournament is being held at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center.
