BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The 24th ranked Union College men's basketball team will go into the 2014 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament as the number one seed, and will open postseason play on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. There, the Bulldogs will take on the winner of a play-in contest between No. 8 seed Point (Ga.) and No. 9 seed Truett-McConnell (Ga.).
The AAC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday morning with a pair of play-in games, will be played for the second straight season at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn. The Bulldogs will play the first quarterfinal matchup on Thursday.
Union, who finished the regular season with a 25-4 overall record, locked up the top seed the tournament and the Regular Season AAC Championship last Wednesday in an 82-73 win over Bryan (Tenn.). In the Bulldogs' regular season finale on Saturday at number two seed Reinhardt (Ga.), they capped off their historic season with a 101-89 win in a game that they never trailed in.
In the regular season, Union was victorious twice over both Point and TMC. The Bulldogs beat Point during the 2013-14 campaign by scores of 71-51 at Robsion Arena on Nov. 9 and in West Point on Feb. 5, 101-74, while knocking off TMC, 70-53 at home on Nov. 23, and 77-65 on the road (Jan. 18).
On Friday, semifinal action will take place at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., with the tournament ending on Saturday with the championship game set for 2 p.m.
