KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Union College forward Fitzgerald White scored a team-high 22 points, as the No. 24 and top-seeded Bulldogs used a huge second half scoring run to surge past eighth-seed Point (Ga.), 73-59, in the Quarterfinals of the 2014 Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament on Thursday morning.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 26-4 overall on the year, and advance on to tomorrow's semifinal round at 2 p.m. at the Marriott MeadowView Convention Center. There, Union will take on No. 4 seed Milligan (Tenn.) who was a 76-63 victor over No. 5 seed Bryan in the quarterfinals.

In the first half, Point came out early and opened a slim lead, which Union quickly bounced back from, going up 21-16 with 10:51 remaining in the period. The Bulldogs eventually extended the lead out to 10 points (30-20) with 7:14 left, but Point stormed back, rolling on a 12-2 run to tie the game back up at 32-all with 4:26 left.

At the end of the half, the lead swung back and forth, but it was Point who went into the locker room for the halftime break leading, as the Skyhawks were up by three at 41-38.

Things remained close between the squads well into the second half, with the Skyhawks taking their biggest lead of the period with 10:15 left at 54-49. Here, Union's huge scoring run began.

Over the next seven minutes and change, the Bulldogs went on an incredible 22-0 run to blow the game completely wide open at 71-54 with 3:21 left. From there, Union rolled, on its way to a convincing double-digit victory to advance to the semifinals of the AAC Tournament.

Overall, White notched his 22-point morning on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor, while also snatching eight rebounds. Elsewhere, guard Tarik Smith came off the Union bench and tacked on 15 points (on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor), DeAntray Stevens had 13 points and dished out nine assists, and Michael Bueter posted 11 points.

Point was led in the loss by Brandon Wright, who scored a game-high 24 points.
