LAURINBURG, N.C. - Senior Luke Collis tossed a complete-game shutout as Union swept an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader from host St. Andrews on Saturday.
The Bulldogs took the opener 7-0 and recorded a 9-4 decision in the nightcap. Union is now 12-5 overall and 2-0 in league play, while St. Andrews is 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the AAC.
Game One - Union 7, St. Andrews 0
Collis allowed seven hits and one walks while fanning three to improve to 3-0 on the season. This is his second complete game of the year but first shutout.
The game was scoreless until the sixth when Union erupted for five runs. The Bulldogs tacked on two more in the seventh for good measure.
Tyler Young collected three RBIs in the win.
Game Two - Union 9, St. Andrews 4
Union outhit St. Andrews 12-4 in the second game en route the five-run victory.
The Knights scored a run in the bottom of the first, but Union rallied for five runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead. The Bulldogs eventually owned a 9-2 lead before St. Andrews scored twice in the bottom of the seventh.
John Wilson led Union at the plate in going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Vance Sullivan finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Zach Dillman drove in two runs as well.
Union and St. Andrews will complete the series with a nine-inning game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
