LAURINBURG, N.C. - Union completed the three-game, Appalachian Athletic Conference series on Sunday with a 14-1 romp over host St. Andrews (N.C.).
The Bulldogs up their record to 13-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while the Knights fall to 6-7 overall and 0-3 in the AAC.
Zach Dillman led the Union offense in going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Ryan Horvath also drove in three RBIs and scored twice while batting 2-for-5, and Nelson Price scored three times and had two RBIs in going 2-for-5 at the plate.
Union scored three in the first, but did not push another run across until the seventh when the Bulldogs put together a seven-run rally. St. Andrews scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh, to make it 10-1. Union polished off the Knights with a four-run eighth, completing the 14-1 rout.
Casey Whittle picked up the win, throwing six innings of shutout ball. He allowed five hits and one walks with fanning two in improving his record to 3-0.
Union returns to action on Tuesday when it visits Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) for one game. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. Eastern/3 p.m. Central.
