BARBOURVILLE, Ky.  - The Union College softball team pushed their winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon, rolling past Blackburn (Ill.) in a pair of 15-7, five inning victories at Union Field.

Game One

In the first game, Union got off to a slow start, but eventually got the bats going, scoring five runs in three separate innings to take an eight-run win.

In the top of the first, Bulldog starter Rachel Cogdill (SR, Knoxville, Tenn.) gave up three runs, as Blackburn leaped out to a quick 3-0 lead. That lead, however, was short lived, as Union tacked on five runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-3 lead after one.

Blackburn quickly tied the game back up at 5-5 in the top of the second with a pair of runs, but in the bottom of the third, Union broke the game open with another five run frame to go up 10-5 after three.

In the top of the fourth, the visiting Beavers cut the Bulldog lead down to 10-7 after scoring two more runs. But, in the bottom of the fifth, Union ended the affair, plating five more runs in an inning, ending the contest in the process.

Overall, the Bulldogs smacked 11 hits in the first game, led by Amanda Cupp (SO, Latonia, Ky. ), who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. Ashley Wojnowski (JR, Sevierville, Tenn.) started her day by going 2-for-4, with two RBI, two runs scored, and three stolen bases, while Chandler Overton (FR, Nashville, Tenn.) was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.

In the circle, Cogdill (5-3) earned the win after working for four innings.

Game Two

In a repeat of game one, Union came out sluggish in the second game, once again allowing three runs in the top of the first inning. The Bulldogs tacked on a run in the bottom of the frame, but still trailed 3-1 after one.

The game swung back and forth over the next two innings, with things coming to a head entering the fourth, tied up at 6-6. After Blackburn failed to score for the first time all game in the top of the frame, Union exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 13-6 after four.

After a Blackburn run in the top of the fifth cut the lead down to 13-7, Union ended the game in the bottom of the inning with two more runs, completing the doubleheader sweep with another eight-run win in five..

In the second game, Wojnowski was dominant, going 3-for-3, with two triples (to match a school-record) and a double. Wojnowski also scored four times in the contest, matching a school-record in that department, as well.

Elsewhere, Danielle Borum (SO, Kingston, Tenn. ) record three RBI, and McKenna Brown (FR, Frankfort, Ky. ) was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, as the Bulldogs laced 12 hits in the second game.
