PINEVILLE, Ky. - The Union College men's and women's golf teams swept the competition on the final day of the Bulldog Spring Invitational at Wasioto Winds Golf Course on Tuesday, as both teams cruised to the top of the leaderboard on the team and individual ends.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs as a team shot three-over (291) on the second day of competition, finishing the invitational with a combined score of 590. The Union B-team finished just behind their teammates on the leaderboard, ending the competition with a score of 618 (313-305).
Individually, Andy Dusek (FR, Woking, England) posted a one-under round of 71 on the day to finish with an even par score of 144 to place on top of the leaderboard, finishing three shots ahead of Thomas Scott (JR, Tai Po, Hong Kong) (73-74). In third was Nick Blakenship (FR, Ashland, Ky. ), who posted a one-over round of 73 to end the invitational at four-over (75-73), while Simon Taylor (JR, Eckenhaid, Bayern, Germany) finished alone in fourth after finishing five over (75-74).
Rounding out the top individuals for the Bulldogs was Tim Cooper (SR, Falmouth, Ky.), who finished in a tie for fifth after bouncing back from a first round 80 to post an even par round of 72 to post a two day total of 152 (+8).
For the women's team, the Bulldogs were just as impressive, finishing the invite with a combined team score of 656 (336-320). The 320 shot by the Union women on the day also matched a school-record for lowest combined round in a second round, as well..
Individually, Sydney Smith (SO, Greensburg, Ky.) finished on top of the leaderboard, shooting a 78 (after a first round 83) in the second round to win by two shots (161).
Elsewhere, Katie Nusz (JR, Mount Washington, Ky.) (88-76) and Danielle Judd (SO, Louisville, Ky.) (84-80) finished in a tie for third after both shooting a combined score of 164, while Brittany Zins (SR, Cincinnati, Ohio) placed fifth with a combined score of 167 (81-86).
The Union College men's and women's golf teams return to action next week, with both teams traveling to different tournaments.
The men's team will head to Covington, Ga. for the SCAD-Atlanta Invite, while the women's team goes to London, Ky. for the SEKI at Crooked Creek Country Club. Both events get underway on Monday.
