BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College softball team lost a pair of games to Concordia (Mich.) on Friday at Union Field, dropping the first game of a doubleheader, 2-1, then the second game, 11-1, in five innings.
With the losses, Union fell to 13-11 overall on the season.
The first contest was a pitchers duel between Union's Rachel Cogdill (SR, Knoxville, Tenn.) and Concordia's Kortney Loar, as both tossed solid games. But, in the fourth, Concordia scored a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead, and kept that lead into the game's final inning.
Union attempted to make a comeback in the seventh, scoring a run on a Tiffanie Moore (FR, Maryville, Tenn.) RBI double, but that was all the Bulldogs could tally, as Loar got out of a jam to record the victory for Concordia.
In the second game, Concordia scored early and often, while the Bulldog offense continued to struggle. After taking a 2-0 lead in the first, CU scored four runs in the third to go up 6-1, then five more in the top of the fifth to put Union away.
In the second game, the Bulldogs only mustered four hits, with Ashley Wojnowski (JR, Sevierville, Tenn.) going 2-for-2. She also recorded an RBI in the loss.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, traveling to Kentucky Wesleyan for another out-of-conference doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m. EST.
