COVINGTON, Ga. - The Union College men's golf team capped off an impressive performance at the 2014 SCAD-Atlanta Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, finishing second as a team amongst a very strong field. The tournament was played at The Oaks, a par 71 layout.
Overall, the Bulldogs finished with a combined two-day team score of 583, posting a 285 in the second round. No. 13 Faulkner (Ala.) captured the invite over Union, firing rounds of 279 on each day (558).
The Bulldogs, however, bested some strong squads with their second place finish, beating AAC-foes Reinhardt (Ga.), (who is receiving votes in this week's NAIA Top 25 Poll), Point (Ga.), and host SCAD-Atlanta (Ga.).
Individually, Simon Taylor (JR/Eckenhaid, Bayern, Germany) led Union in the second round, firing a three-under 68 on the day to finish third overall. With his performance, Taylor was selected to the All-Tournament team.
Elsewhere, Andy Dusek (FR/Woking, England) and Nick Blankenship (FR/Ashland, Ky. ) continued their strong play with a pair of one-under 70's, Garrett Bradley (SR/Jellico, Tenn.) posted a two-over 73, Tim Cooper (SR/Falmouth, Ky.) fired a three-over 74, and Thomas Scott (JR/Tai Po, Hong Kong) rounded out the top individuals on the day with a six-over round of 77.
The Union College men's golf team returns to action on Monday, traveling to Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky. for the 22nd Annual Men's SEKI. Action concludes in the tournament on Tuesday.
