BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union scored early on often as the Bulldogs cruised to an 8-2 victory over visiting Cincinnati Clermont (Ohio) on Wednesday, extending their win streak to four.
Union now stands at 21-7 overall, while Clermont is 6-5.
LaVance Anderson (SR/Bowling Green, Ky.) was the offensive star of the day, going 4-for-4 with a walk, a double and four runs scored. Nelson Price (JR/Burkesville, Ky.) was the only other Bulldog with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Anderson got the going in the first with a lead-off single. After a sac bunt and a stolen base to move him to third, he scored on a two-out single by Price to make it 1-0.
The Bulldogs took advantage of some Cougar miscues in the second to put up a four-spot. J.D. Burrell (JR/Amanda, Ohio) lined a run-scoring single to make it 2-0 before Union loading the bases with two outs. Clermont looked as if it was going to get out of the inning with a groundball to short, but an error allowed a run to score and keep the inning alive. The final two runs crossed the plate thanks to a pair of wild pitches, upping Union's lead to 5-0.
Both teams scored in the eighth, and Clermont scratched out one final run in the ninth to make the final 8-2.
Alex Fuller (SO/Franklin, Ky.) improved to 2-0 on the season, tossing two shutout innings in relief. He allowed three hits and no walks.
