MONTREAT, N.C. - The Union College softball team collected their first two victories in Appalachian Athletic Conference play for the year on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader at Montreat (N.C.). The Bulldogs captured game one of the double-dip, 4-3, then completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory in game two.
With the victories, the Bulldogs improved to 16-14 overall, 2-6 in the AAC. Montreat fell to 9-20, 2-10 in the AAC with the loss.
In game one, Montreat leaped out to a 3-2 lead after three. Union, however, stormed back over the next two innings, grabbing the lead back at 4-3 in the sixth.
From there, starting pitcher Rachel Cogdill (SR/Knoxville, Tenn.) rolled to a one-run victory, improving her record in the circle on the year to 6-7 overall. At the dish, Amanda Cupp (SO/Latonia, Ky. ) paced the Bulldogs in game one, recording three RBI.
In the second game, Montreat once again got out to an early lead, going up 3-0 after three. In the top of the fourth, however, Union clawed back in it, scoring three runs to knot the game up at 3-3. The Bulldogs then plated three more runs in the top of the sixth, and rolled from there, notching their second straight come-from-behind win.
In the pitching circle, Katie Perkins (SR/Owensboro, Ky. ) earned the win with a complete game performance (4-2). At the plate, Danielle Borum (SO/Kingston, Tenn. ) had a pair of RBI, while Andrea Foster (SO/Harriman, Tenn.) hit two doubles to lead the way.
The Bulldogs host AAC-foe and No. 10 Reinhardt (Ga.) on Monday in a conference doubleheader at Union Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
