BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College softball team dropped a pair of game to No. 10 Reinhardt (Ga.) on Monday afternoon at Union Field, falling in game one of an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader 8-3, then losing game two, 21-9.

With the losses, Union fell to 16-16 overall, 2-8 in the AAC, while Reinhardt improved to 28-7 overall, 8-2 in the AAC with the victories.

Game One

In the first game, Reinhardt leaped out to an early 6-0 lead in the third inning, hitting two three-run home runs. Union finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, after Amanda Cupp hit a RBI sacrifice fly, scoring Rachel Cogdill from third base, making it a 6-1 game.

After RU scored another run in the top of the fifth to make it 7-1, the Bulldogs got back in it in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs, cutting the deficit down to 7-3. Chandler Overton had an RBI single in the frame, while Tiffanie Moore notched an RBI on a fielders choice.

Reinhardt, however, scored their final run in the top of the sixth, and kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard the rest of the way to roll to a five-run victory.

Overall, Overton led the Bulldogs at the dish in game one, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Game Two

While the first game was a relatively calm affair, game two was anything but that, as both teams combined for 38 hits and seven home runs.

Similar to game one, Reinhardt opened up an early lead, going up 2-0 in the top of the first. The Bulldogs, however, fought back, plating runs in the first and second innings to tie the game at 2-2 after two.

But, Reinhardt bounced back, plating three runs in the top of the third to go back up 5-2. After a Union run in the bottom of the fourth made it a 5-3 game, the Lady Eagles appeared to put the game away with six runs over the fifth and sixth innings to go up 11-3 into the bottom of the sixth.

However, the Bulldogs made a wild run in the frame. After two quick outs, Union stayed alive with back-to-back walks, loading the bases. Here, Moore laced a two-RBI double into deep center field, making the score 11-5.

On the very first pitch of the next at-bat, Brianna Degennaro made it a ballgame with one swing of the bat, hitting a three-run home run over the left field fence to cut the RU lead all the way down to 11-8 entering the seventh.

But, in the final frame, Reinhardt exploded for 10 runs to put the Bulldogs away, as RU walked away with a conference sweep of Union.

Overall, Union posted 15 hits in the game, with McKenna Brown leading the way with a perfect 3-for-3 day. Ashley Wojnowski (2-for-4), Moore (2-for-4, 2 RBI), and Danielle Borum (2-for-4) all had multiple hit contests, as Andrea Foster and Degennaro hit home runs on the day for the Bulldogs.
