KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Union College men's basketball team will cap off an historic 2013-14 season ranked No. 23 in the NAIA Division II Postseason Coaches' Poll. The final ranking of the season was announced today by the National Office.
With the ranking, Union ends the season earning a spot in the Top 25 for the final eight weeks the poll was taken, earning a final accolade to what was a season for the ages for the Bulldogs.
Led by AAC Coach of the Year Kevin Burton, Union ended the 2013-14 campaign with a 28-5 record, the best in the history of the program. The team also went on a school-record 13 game winning streak during the year, as well.
The campaign was capped off by the Bulldogs sweeping both the AAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships in late February and early March, marking the first time since the 1972-73 season a Union team had done so. In the 2014 NAIA Division II National Tournament, the Bulldogs dropped a tough decision to No. 15 St. Thomas (Fla.), 75-72, losing the game on a last second shot.
Individually, forward Deante Johnson (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) led Union all season, becoming the first Union player in three seasons to earn All-AAC First Team accolades, and the eighth player in program history to earn NAIA All-American Honorable Mention honors, as well.
