WALESKA, Ga. - A five-run seventh inning was more than enough to send Union over the top as the Bulldogs captured a 5-3 Appalachian Athletic Conference win over host Reinhardt (Ga.) on Friday.
The win is the third in a row for Union, which is now 28-13 overall and 12-7 in the AAC. Reinhardt falls to 27-20 overall and 12-7 in league play.
Reinhardt took the early advantage with three runs in the third. Justin Schilie, Matt Kaiser and Tyler Adams put together back-to-back-to-back RBI hits to give the Eagles a 3-0 cushion.
The scored remained unchanged until the seventh when Union exploded for five runs. Justin Elder (JR/Seven Mile, Ohio) started the scoring with a RBI single before Nelson Price (JR/Burkesville, Ky.) delivered the big blow, a three-run home run to make it 4-3. LaVance Anderson (SR/Bowling Green, Ky.) capped the rally with a run-scoring single to give the Bulldogs the 5-3 edge.
Jared Tomany (SR/Bryant, Wis.) came in and pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to record the save, his third of the season. He allowed no runs on no hits and one walk with one strikeout. Trey Alexander (SO/Glasgow, Ky.) earned the win to up his mark to 3-1 as he went 1 1/3 innings in relief, allowing only three hits.
The home run was Price's eighth of the season and 18th for his career. He also leads the team with 43 RBIs.
Elder finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI.
Union and Reinhardt will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
