BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College volleyball head coach Jeremy Wise has announced the Bulldogs' 2014 slate, which features 33 matches in total.
Union, who posted a 26-9 overall mark in Wise's first season as head coach in 2013 (17-3 in the AAC), take on a schedule that features two tournaments, and 16 Appalachian Athletic Conference contests. In all, the Bulldogs will entertain 11 opponents at Robsion Arena, as well.
The Bulldogs will open the 2014 campaign on Aug. 22 and 23 at the Aces in August Tournament held on the campus of Rio Grande (Ohio), playing four matches total over the weekend. On Aug. 26, Union will open their home schedule with a match against Dalton State (Ga.) beginning at 6:30 p.m.
In what is a prevalent theme throughout the schedule, the Bulldogs will embark on a six-match road swing to begin September, ending with a tri-match at Milligan (Tenn.) against the host Lady Buffaloes (in a non-conference match) and Brenau (Ga.) on Sept. 13. On Sept. 19, the Bulldogs return home to Robsion Arena, hosting Truett-McConnell (Ga.) in their AAC regular season opener.
Following another AAC home match against Point on Sept. 20, the Bulldogs host defending AAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion Bryan (Tenn.) on Sept. 23 in the first of two match-ups throughout the season. The second will come at Bryan on Oct. 28.
After ending the month of September with four straight matches on the road, the Bulldogs host Milligan at home to begin October on Oct. 2, then host Montreat (N.C.) on Oct. 4. Following a tilt at Tennessee Wesleyan on Oct. 7, the Bulldogs once again travel to Rio Grande for a tournament, this time taking part in the Bob Evans Classic on Oct. 10-11.
After playing their final two matches of the month at home on Oct. 14-15 against Tennessee Wesleyan and Brescia (Ky.), respectively, Union hits the road for five straight AAC matches, ending on Nov. 1 at St. Andrews (N.C.).
The Bulldogs conclude the 2014 regular season with back-to-back home matches, hosting Cumberlands (Ky.) on Nov. 5 and Reinhardt (Ga.) on Nov. 7. The 2014 AAC Volleyball Tournament will once again be contested at the MeadowView Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn., beginning on Nov. 12.
