
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Another Union Indoor Track and Field record went down and the 4 x 400 relay team reached a national qualifying standard Saturday at the Virginia Tech Challenge inside Rector Field House.
The 4 x 400 meters relay team reached the NAIA "B" qualifying mark and school record with a time of three minutes and 24.49 seconds. The relay team started with Johnnie Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Erick Coleman (Chicago, Ill.) ran the second leg. Cody Miller (Middlesboro, Ky.) was the third Bulldog in the relay and he set up the anchor leg for Andre Thornton (Loganville, Ga.) Nabors and Thornton were on the relay team at last year’s Depauw Invitational that set the mark at 3:35.41.
The 3,000 meters was ran by senior Brandon Kibert (Tazewell, Tenn.) He finished fourth in his section with a time of 9:17.29.
Marekus Smith (Lithonia, Ga.) completed the 400-meter dash in 54.17 seconds. Brennan O’Quinn (Meadowview, Va.) needed 2:08.88 to run the 800 meters. In the mile event, Daniel Kual (Stone Mountain, Ga.) posted a time of 4:41.54. All three times were close to Union records.
The Virginia Tech Challenge concludes the indoor track and field season for the Bulldogs. Next for Union is the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship set to get underway on March 6 in Johnson City, Tenn.
