
WISE, Va. – The Union College Bulldogs saw the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season come to an end with an 86-63 setback Saturday at UVa-Wise.
Union ends the 2007-08 season with an 18-12 overall mark and 8-10 in conference play. UVa-Wise moved into a tie with Union with an 8-10 AAC record. Wise also went to 13-17 overall.
Things got off to a good start for Union when Chris Stunson (Richmond, Ky.) scored the first two points of the game, but UVa-Wise reeled off seven straight points and never looked back. The Bulldogs trailed at halftime 41-32.
Freshman Michael Hester (Independence, Ky.) led the Bulldogs with 13 points with three assists off the bench. He was two points away from his career high and it was his tenth game in double-digits. Aaron Dunaway (Lexington, Ky.) added eight points for Union.
Jarred Soles and Pance Kecev scored 25 and 20 points, respectively for UVa-Wise.
Union struggled from behind the 3-point line, as the Bulldogs went 1-for-8. In comparison, UVa-Wise was 10-for-23 behind the arc.
The Bulldogs grabbed 39 rebounds, 11 more than the Cavs. Huberts von Heyden (Neulenbach, Austria) grabbed a game-best nine rebounds for Union.
Union will have to wait to see who their first-round opponent will be when the AAC Tournament bracket is announced Sunday.
