BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College opens play in the 2008 Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Thursday as the No. 2 seed and awaits to see who its opening-round opponent will be.

The tournament is being held at Viking Hall in Bristol, Tenn.

Union (22-8 overall, 15-3 AAC) will face the winner of the game between No. 7 Montreat (N.C.) College (13-16 overall, 6-12 AAC) and No. 10 Bluefield (Va.) College (3-25 overall, 2-16 AAC) Thursday at 1:45 p.m. Montreat and Bluefield square off at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The other Wednesday game pits No. 8 Virginia Intermont (7-23 overall, 4-14 AAC) and No. 9 UVa-Wise (5-25 overall, 3-15 AAC) at 3 p.m.

Thursday, No. 3 Milligan (Tenn.) College (17-13 overall, 14-4 AAC) and No. 6 Bryan (Tenn.) College (10-19 overall, 7-11 AAC) play at 12 p.m.; No. 1 King (Tenn.) College (19-10 overall, 15-3 AAC) takes on the Virginia Intermont-UVa-Wise winner at 7 p.m.; and No. 4 Covenant (Ga.) College (21-7 overall, 14-4 AAC) faces No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan College (13-16 overall, 10-8 AAC) at 8:45 p.m.

Union and King are 2007-08 Appalachian Athletic Conference Regular-Season Co-Champions, but King locked up the No. 1 seed and the regular-season automatic berth to the NAIA Division II National Championship Tournament with a 75-57 win over Union in a special play-off game Monday.

Union is the defending tournament champion, having entered the 2007 tournament as the No. 6 seed and defeating the top three seeds.
