BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - David Nicholson has resigned as the Union College head volleyball coach to take the head coaching duties at University of Texas-Brownsville, Union Director of Athletics Darin S. Wilson announced Thursday.

"We are very appreciative of all that Dave has done for Union College and for the Lady Bulldog volleyball program," Wilson said. "He has bought the program to new heights, and we wish him all the bests as he embarks on this new endeavor."

Texas-Brownsville has been a NAIA program for only two seasons, but has compiled a 63-21 record during that time. In 2007, the Scorpions went 36-9 and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament.

In three seasons under Nicholson, the Lady Bulldogs compiled a 66-51 overall record as well as capturing the program's first-ever conference championship as Union won the 2007 Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season crown.

Union set a program record for wins in 2007 as it posted a 34-15 mark and advance to the NAIA Region XII Tournament. Nicholson had three players named to the All-Conference First Team and another one to the All-Conference Second Team. The 2007 squad also boasted the NAIA Region XII Player of the Year, the AAC Player of the Year, the AAC Setter of the Year and the AAC Freshman of the Year. Nicholson was named AAC and NAIA Region XII Coach of the Year.

In 2006, the Lady Bulldogs recorded 21-17 overall record and 12-6 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. Nicholson has had one player earn NAIA All-American Honorable Mention honors, two NAIA Setters of the Week nods, three All-Conference First Team selections, three All-Region First Team selections and two conference All-Freshman Team selections.

Assistant coach Whitney Erb will serve as the Lady Bulldogs' interim head coach until Nicholson's successor is named.
