BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The No. 17 Union College Bulldogs earned two wins over the visiting Indiana University Northwest Redhawks Wednesday. Union used five innings for the 14-0 game-one victory and completed the sweep with a 10-0 win.
The Bulldogs improved to 19-4 on the year while Indiana Northwest moved to 0-4.
On the mound for Union, Lucas Henson (Corbin, Ky.) tossed his first complete game and shutout of the season. He struck out seven Redhawks and scattered three hits to run his record to 2-0 in the opener. The second game saw Union’s Tyler Jones (Bowling Green, Ky.) pitch four innings to improve to 3-0. He allowed four hits and struck out four.
In the first contest, Union posted runs in all four innings they batted. Three runs came in the first followed by seven more in the second frame. Union added two runs in both the third and fourth innings.
For Union at the plate, Tyler Martin (Corbin, Ky.) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Colten King (Clay City, Ky.) recorded two hits and drove in two runs as well.
C.R. Berry (Roark, Ky.) had a pair of hits with two runs scored. Daniel Crump (Berea, Ky.) and Levi Hardin (Elizabethtown, Ky.) also had mutli-hit games.
Once again, the Bulldogs jumped on the Redhawks for four first-inning runs in the second game. Union scored one run in the second, fourth and sixth innings with a three-run outburst in the fifth.
King was 3-for-4 in the last contest with a double, two runs scored and a RBI. Hardin and Trey Mayer (Somerset, Ky.) added two hits each as well. Hardin collected two hits, a double and triple with two runs scored. Dustin Thrasher (Somerset, Ky.) also came home twice.
The opening game saw Shane Wentz record the loss on the mound for the Redhawks. He struck out two with only one walk. Sean Roth tossed 5 1/3 innings in the second contest. He allowed ten runs, five earned, on 11 hits.
Roth and Wentz delivered two hits a piece. In both games, the Redhawks had seven hits combined.
The Bulldogs will host Covenant (Ga.) College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday. The first game of the set is scheduled for noon.
