BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Senior Allison Fowler and junior Carrie Bistline represent Union College as 2008 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Basketball Division II Scholar-Athletes, the NAIA announced recently.

This marks the second time Fowler (Morganfield, Ky.) was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, joining Terra Keith as the only players in program history to receive the honor twice.

In addition, this is the first time in program history Union has had two players receive the honor.

Fowler earned All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Second Team honors as she averaged 13.5 points and 3.82 rebounds per game and led the team with 137 assists and a school-record 94 steals. The 5-foot-7 guard earned Tournament MVP honors as she led Union to its second consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament championship, averaging 21.7 points per game.

Fowler ends her career ranked second in program history in points (1,427), assists (421) and steals (268) and ninth in rebounds (425).

Additionally, Fowler became the first student-athlete in Union history to be named to a CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team as she landed on the 2008 ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Basketball College Division First Team.

Bistline (Frankfort, Ky.) played in 12 games, starting three, this season before having her season cut short due to an injury. The 6-foot forward averaged 4.67 points and 2.67 rebounds per game and had seven blocked shots.

For her career, Bistline has scored 596 points and grabbed 267 rebounds.

Over 220 women's basketball players from across the country have been named 2008 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Basketball All-American Scholar-Athletes. Student-athletes must be nominated by their head coach, have achieved junior academic status and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Union posted a 25-9 overall record and went 15-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play, winning a share of the regular-season conference championship as well as the tournament title. Union advanced to the NAIA Division II National Championship Tournament for the second year in a row.
