
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – After owning the first-round lead, the Union College Bulldogs slipped to fourth at the Montreat College Spring Invitational on Tuesday. However, a Bulldog did earn a spot on the All-Tournament team.
The two-day invitational was contested at the Crooked Creek Golf Course, a par-72 over a 6,652-yard layout, located in Hendersonville, N.C.
Union posted a final-round score of 316 while three teams shot under 300. The Bulldogs finished with a two-day total of 613. Brevard (N.C.) College, a NCAA Division II team, used a 287 to take the team title with a score of 588. Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) College finished second, 17 shots behind Brevard. Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) University was third, six shots in front of Union.
The Bulldogs did finish in front of Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Milligan (Tenn.) College by 20 shots.
Adam LaTulippe (Hamilton, Ohio) followed his opening round 69 with a 78 on Tuesday. He was tied for third in the individual standings to be on the All-Tournament team. Magnus Lundberg (Stockholm, Sweden) had the low round of the day for Union, with a 73. Sam Lee (Knoxville, Tenn.) posted a final-round 82 while Brooks Napier (Walton, Ky.) added an 83.
Matt Johnson, from Spartanburg Methodist, took the individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 141. Brevard’s David Martinez was second at 143. LaTulippe tied with another Brevard golfer, Craig Galloway. Rounding out the Top-5 was Southern Wesleyan’s Pieter Martin with a 148.
The Bulldogs return to the course for the Southeastern Kentucky Intercollegiate Tournament at the Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky. The two-day event tees off Thursday, March 27.
