BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College Lady Bulldogs suffered a pair of 4-2 losses at home Saturday against Reinhardt (Ga.) College.

After the doubleheader, Union owns an 8-16 record while Reinhardt goes to 20-8.

Errors from the Lady Bulldogs helped propel Reinhardt to the lead in the sixth inning of the first game. In all four Union errors during the frame led to all four of the Lady Eagles’ runs in the game.

Union scored the first run of the day in the fourth inning. Sarah Driver (Hopkinsville, Ky.) started the inning with a double and scored on a double off Suzannah Behnken’s (Tempe, Ariz.) bat.

An Ashley Tatman (Lexington, Ky.) home run made the score 4-2 after six innings.

The Lady Bulldogs fought back to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh. However, Union was unable to score and back-to-back fielders’ choices brought the game to an end.

Lee Davis (Lexington, Ky.) was the only player with a multi-hit game in the opener, with a 2-for-3 effort for the Lady Bulldogs.

Driver suffered the loss on the mound after she tossed her 11th complete game of the season. Driver allowed four runs, one was earned, on four hits. She mixed in six strikeouts.

Reinhardt’s Tiffany Reeves picked up the win. Union collected eight hits off her while Reeves struck out five in seven innings of work.

Union once again struck first in the second contest when Behnken hit a solo home run in the opening inning.

Ashley Bramhall, Reinhardt’s pitcher, helped herself out with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to tie the game. Her fly ball allowed Nicole Rice to score after she hit a double to lead the inning off.

The tie did not last long as Ryan Travis (Hopkinsville, Ky.) delivered a RBI single which allowed Davis to score in the bottom half of the fourth. Davis was on third after her one-out triple to right field.

Another scoring outburst from Reinhardt in the sixth inning saw the Lady Eagles post three runs to take the lead for good.

Sherry DeVault (Baltimore, Ohio) tossed 5 2/3 innings and surrendered four runs, one was unearned, on five hits. She mixed in three strikeouts.

Bramhall struck out 10 over her seven innings, with two runs on five hits. She also drove in a pair of runs. At the plate, Cassie Davis had a game-high two hits.

Next for Union will be a set of home games with Pikeville (Ky.) College on Wednesday. The first game of the doubleheader is set for a 2 p.m. start. The first time Union played Pikeville, the Lady Bulldogs came back with a split on March 5.

Bulldog Notes

  • Tatman’s home run is her third of the season, the most by any Lady Bulldog.
  • Union opened the season at Reinhardt with a split on Feb. 16. The two met again on Feb. 29, with Reinhardt winning 12-10.
  • Travis has a five-game hitting streak after the doubleheader.
