
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College junior Marty Popham has been tagged as the Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row, the league announced Monday.
Union went 4-2 last week and 3-1 in conference play, putting the No. 16 Bulldogs' overall and conference records at 23-6 and 6-2, respectively.
Popham (Louisville, Ky.) won both his starts, improving his overall record 8-0. In a 13-0 win over Covenant (Ga.) College, the right-hander tossed five shutout innings and allowed one hit and one walk with six strikeouts. Popham recorded his fourth complete game Saturday in a 4-1 victory at Bluefield (Va.) College as he gave up one earned run on eight hits and no walks with 11 strikeouts.
Popham has record 11 strikeouts in a game three times this season.
On the year, Popham boasts a 1.28 earned-run average with 66 strikeouts and 13 walks in 49.1 innings pitched.
Popham leads the Appalachian Athletic Conference and ranks seventh in the NAIA in Strikeouts Per Nine Innings at 12.04.
