
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Union College track team finished the Emory (Ga.) University Asics Classic on an impressive note Saturday. Two Bulldogs won their running events while a total of three school records were broken.
Andre Thornton (Loganville, Ga.) and Johnnie Nabors, (Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished first and second in the 200-meter dash finals with times of 21.80 and 22.13, respectively. The two qualified earlier in the day. Thornton was the faster of the two at 21.98 while Nabors turned in a 22.47 second run.
Thornton also posted a second-place finish in the 400 meter with a 48.81 run. The time is also a NAIA "B" National Qualifiying mark.
Nabors added a win in the 100-meter dash finals as well. His winning time was 10.63 seconds and he was just .06 seconds off his own school record. Nabors ran the prelim race in 11.02 seconds, the third-fastest performance in the prelims.
In the triple jump, Marekus Smith (Lithonia, Ga.) finished third with a jump of 41 feet and 7.25 inches. It established the Union record.
Jared Ford (Frankfort, Ky.) recorded school record and a Top-10 throw in the shot put with a toss of 39 feet and 8 inches, good enough for eighth. James Mills (Manchester, Ky.) also recorded a throw of 36 feet and 7.5 inches.
Daniel Kual (Stone Mountain, Ga.) ran 1,500 meters in four minutes and 11.93 seconds to lower his school record by 6.38 seconds. In the 800, he posted a time of 2:02.29. Cody Miller (Middlesboro, Ky.) also ran the 800 meters in 2:06.61.
The Bulldogs will be at the Duke Invitational next weekend in Durham, N.C.
