KINGSPORT, Tenn. – A pair of Union College golfers posted rounds of 74 in the first day of the UVa-Wise Spring Invitational as a part of the Appalachian Athletic Conference championship on Monday.

The two-day event is at the Ridgefields Country Club in Kingsport, Tenn. The par-70 layout played at 6,405 yards in the first round.

Magnus Lundberg (Stockholm, Sweden) and Adam LaTulippe (Hamilton, Ohio) were the two Bulldogs that shot 74 in the first round. Sam Lee (Knoxville, Tenn.) followed with a 79 and Niklas Tidebrant (Gothenburg, Sweden) added an 82.

Tennessee Wesleyan College fired an opening-day 286 to take the invitational lead. Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) College stands in second with a 300. King (Tenn.) College and Milligan (Tenn.) College both shot 305 while Covenant (Ga.) College posted a 306. Union finished the first day in sixth with a team-score of 309.

In the AAC Championship standings, Tennessee Wesleyan extended the lead to 31 shots over the Bulldogs. Tennessee Wesleyan owns a three-round total of 887, while Union is at 918. Milligan is third at 924, one shot better than Covenant.

The first two rounds of the AAC Championship were played in conjunction with the Montreat (N.C.) College Fall Invitational back in September.

Action gets underway at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning with Union teeing off at 10 a.m.
