
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Two Bulldogs won their individual events as the Union College track and field team competed Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands' Invitational in Williamsburg, Ky.
Johnnie Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.) won the 400-meter dash with a 49.83 second performance. Andre Thornton (Loganville, Ga.) also took the 100-meter dash crown. He posted an 11.05 second time. Thornton added a second-place finish in the 200 meters with time of 22.00 seconds. Nabors was fourth, .38 seconds behind Thornton.
The 4x100 meter men's relay team posted a second-place finish with a time of 42.25 seconds, .08 seconds from first.
Marekus Smith (Lithonia, Ga.) was in the 100 meters and was eighth with an 11.54 second run. He added a 23.06 second performance in the 200 meters.
Brennan O'Quinn (Meadowview, Va.) and Daniel Kual (Stone Mountain, Ga.) finished seventh and eighth, respectively in the 1,500 meters. O'Quinn posted a time of four minutes and 17.55 seconds while Kual was .19 seconds behind. Kual added a run of 2:05.50 in the 800 meters and O'Quinn was in the 400-meter hurdles and ran the event in 1:01.72.
In the men's shot put, Jared Ford (Frankfort, Ky.) recorded a throw of 37 feet and 10 inches. James Mills (Manchester, Ky.) was close to him at 36 feet and 3 inches. He was a part of the discus throw and his best toss went 102 feet and 1 inch.
Cody Miller (Middlesboro, Ky.) launched the javelin 136 feet and 2 inches.
In the team standings, the Bulldogs finished seventh in the 19-team field. Union collected 45 points. Cumberlands took the men's crown with 110 points.
Next on the schedule is the Appalachian Athletic Conference championship next weekend in Banner Elk, N.C. Action is scheduled to begin Friday at Lees-McRae College.
