BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College has named Whitney Erb as the new Lady Bulldog volleyball coach, Director of Athletics Darin S. Wilson announced Friday.

"I am happy that we were able to find such a bright, young coach here on our staff. I'm looking forward to the continued growth of our volleyball program," Wilson said.

Erb replaces David Nicholson, who left to take the head coaching position at University of Texas-Brownsville. The Sarasota, Fla. native is the 10th person to take the helm of the Lady Bulldog program.

Erb has spent two of the past three seasons as Union's assistant coach.

"I am very excited about this opportunity to remain with the Union volleyball program," Erb said. "I have enjoyed my time here, and I look forward to the future as we continue to build a winning tradition."

A 2005 graduate of the University of Montevallo (Ala.), Erb first served as the Lady Bulldog assistant during the 2005 season during which Union posted an 11-19 record. After spending the 2006 campaign as an assistant at NCAA Division Seton Hall (N.J.) University, she returned to Union for 2007 as the team captured the program's first-ever Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season championship.

The Lady Bulldogs won a program-best 34 wins in 2007 and recorded back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in over a decade as Union went 34-15 in 2007 and 21-17 in 2006.
