
BRISTOL, Va. – A 7-5 come from behind victory gave the Union College softball team a pair of wins at Virginia Intermont College Saturday in Appalachian Athletic Conference play Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs won the first contest 8-0 in five innings.
Sarah Driver (Hopkinsville, Ky.) tossed a complete game to start the day and she also went 3-for-3 at the plate. It was her second three-hit effort of the season. Driver struck out seven batters and allowed three hits while on the mound.
Union also used a three-run home run from Lee Davis (Lexington, Ky.) in the win. She added another RBI for a season-best in a 2-for-3 performance. Ashley Eichelberger (Orangevale, Calif.) added two RBIs.
In the final contest, Sherry DeVault (Baltimore, Ohio) scattered seven hits and mixed in five strikeouts for the win.
The Lady Bulldogs scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning after Virginia Intermont posted five in the sixth frame.
Suzannah Behnken (Tempe, Ariz.) drove in two runs during the final-inning spurt. Mallory Lavoy (Temperance, Mich.) had a pair of hits in four at bats.
Union ended AAC play with a 10-6 record which puts the Lady Bulldogs in third. Behind afour-game winning streak after the doubleheader, Union hasan overall record of 19-25. The Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont moved to 8-26 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
The Lady Bulldogs have Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College on the schedule for a pair of games on Wednesday. The first game will start at 2 p.m. in Barbourville.
