PLATTE CITY, Mo. - Union College senior quarterback Joey Waters garnered Most Valuable Player honors Saturday as he helped the Nationals to a 29-21 victory in the Victory Sports Network Senior Classic.
Waters (McDonough, Ga.) completed 19-of-30 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown in the eight-point victory. His longest pass went for 59 yards and a touchdown as he hooked up with Jared Stace with 5:15 to go in the third quarter.
Waters had a career year for the Bulldogs as he set single-season records for completions (253), attempts (422), yards (3,216) and touchdowns (27). He had six games, and five in a row, in which he threw for more than 300 yards in a game. Against West Virginia Tech, Waters set the single-season passing yards record with 518 yards in a 50-13 romp. He finished his career at Union as the all-time leading passer with 7,880 yards and 66 career passing touchdowns. Waters owns or shares 11 program records.
He was named the Mid-South Conference East Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, Waters was named the MSC Offensive Player of the Week four times as well as the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week once.
