BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College women's swim team was honored recently as it was named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar Team.

The squad, led by head coach Rafael Forti, finished 18th at the 2007 NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championship. Team members include Eden Ellison (Tamms, Ill.), Dena Gonzalez (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Madalyn Kamkar (Barbourville, Ky.), Jessica Kirschner (Barbourville, Ky.), Mollie Messmer (Scott City, Mo.) and Kelli Rogers (Elizabethtown, Ky.)

To be recognized, a team must hold at least a 3.0 team grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the 2006-2007 academic year. This past academic year, over 400 teams across the NAIA were named a scholar team.
