BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College softball team knows the path towards the 2008 Appalachian Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Championship and the trek starts against King (Tenn.) College at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Lady Bulldogs finished AAC play with a 10-6 record to secure the third seed. Union enters post-season play with an overall record of 19-25. King compiled a 7-9 AAC, the sixth-best record, with an overall mark of 20-27. The two split a doubleheader in Barbourville on April 12. Union took the opening game 7-1 and King evened the series with a 6-1 victory.

The Union and King winner advances to an 8 p.m. contest Wednesday to play the winner between UVa-Wise, the AAC runner up, and Virginia Intermont College, the seventh seed. The loser of the Union and King contest plays in a losers' bracket game Thursday at 10:15 a.m.

The tournament will be contested at the Whitetop Creek Park Softball complex in Bristol, Tenn. Action gets underway with a contest between Montreat (N.C.) College and Bluefield (Va.) College. The two play at 8:30 a.m. in an eight versus nine matchup Wednesday.

The Montreat and Bluefield winner will play the AAC regular-season champion, Milligan (Tenn.) College at noon. The other game in the top half of the bracket is the four and five contest between Tennessee Wesleyan College and Covenant (Ga.) College at 10:15 a.m. The two winners play at 6 p.m.

Milligan clinched the top seed with a 14-2 conference record, one game better than UVa-Wise.

The winners' bracket final is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday with the AAC Championship game Friday at noon. The winner of the tournament receives a bid to the NAIA Region XII Tournament.
