
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College women's tennis team knows their first-round opponent for the 2008 NAIA Region XII Tournament and it is the Midway (Ky.) Eagles. The two will meet for a 1 p.m. match Friday at Milligan College, Tenn.
Union enters the tournament ranked 23rd in the country and the top team in the last NAIA Region XII rankings released Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs swept the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships for the second-straight season. Union did not lose to a conference team this season and has an overall record of 12-4. The squad owns a four-match winning streak going into the tournament. Union looks to repeat as Region XII Tournament Champions.
Midway finished the regular-season with a 10-5-1 record and finished second in both the KIAC regular season and tournament.
The other semifinal contest features the host Milligan, the AAC runner-up, against Indiana University Southeast, the KIAC regular season and tournament champions.
To the winner of Saturday's 9 a.m. championship match goes an automatic bid to the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship in Mobile, Ala.
